Two Research Infrastructure Projects Involving the UW Faculty of Biology Included in the Polish Roadmap for Research Infrastructures
17 08 2026
Two research infrastructure projects involving the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw have been included in the Polish Roadmap for Research Infrastructures (PMIB).
The first of the selected projects is the Interdisciplinary Specialist Research Infrastructure INSPIRE, coordinated by Anna Ajduk, PhD, DSc, from the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, and Dorota Adamska, PhD, from the Centre of New Technologies, University of Warsaw (CeNT UW).
INSPIRE brings together the research infrastructure and expertise of several units of the University of Warsaw. The project involves the Imaging Laboratory, Flow Cytometry Laboratory, Microfluidics Laboratory, Phytotron Facility, and Laboratory of Biogeochemistry and Environmental Protection at the Faculty of Biology, as well as selected laboratories from CeNT UW, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Physics, and the Faculty of Geology.
The second project included in the PMIB is “Polish Natural History Collections – Biodiversity Research Infrastructure”, coordinated by Piotr Tykarski, PhD, DSc, from the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw. This is a nationwide initiative involving the University of Warsaw together with 15 other institutions from across Poland.
As part of the call conducted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, 192 applications were submitted for the inclusion of strategic research infrastructures in the Polish Roadmap for Research Infrastructures. Of these, 183 successfully passed the formal evaluation and proceeded to substantive assessment. Ultimately, 104 of the highest-rated research infrastructure projects were included in the PMIB. In addition, 61 infrastructures retained their place on the Roadmap following a review of its previous edition conducted in 2024–2025.
New opportunities for research and collaboration
Inclusion in the Polish Roadmap for Research Infrastructures represents an important step towards the further development of these initiatives. Being part of the PMIB creates new opportunities to strengthen research facilities and infrastructure, including enhanced prospects for securing funding, conducting interdisciplinary research projects, and developing new areas of scientific collaboration.
Further information and the complete list of projects included in the Polish Roadmap for Research Infrastructures are available in the official announcement of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
