Warsaw Becomes a Hub for High Magnetic Field Research

Category: Events

The Magnetic Fields in Materials Research workshop and the annual EMFL User Meeting, held on 29–30 June 2026 at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, brought together researchers from Poland and across Europe. The events provided a platform for presenting the latest scientific achievements, exchanging expertise, and strengthening collaborations within the framework of the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL).

The University of Warsaw is a member of the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL), an international research infrastructure that provides scientists with access to some of the world’s most powerful magnetic fields. These extreme magnetic fields constitute an essential research tool in condensed matter physics, enabling the investigation and manipulation of material properties under otherwise inaccessible conditions. The University’s participation in EMFL highlights its strong research potential and underscores the importance of advanced scientific infrastructure in driving cutting-edge research.

Beyond providing access to unique experimental facilities, EMFL is dedicated to fostering scientific collaboration and promoting the dissemination of research outcomes. These objectives were reflected in the two events hosted at the Faculty of Physics on 29–30 June 2026.

The second edition of the Magnetic Fields in Materials Research workshop brought together researchers representing leading Polish scientific institutions. The annual EMFL User Meeting, which gathers users of the EMFL infrastructure from across Europe, returned to Warsaw after a seven-year interval, coinciding with Poland’s renewed participation in the EMFL consortium.

The scientific programme of both events featured 24 presentations showcasing recent research carried out using EMFL facilities. Equally important were the discussions, exchange of experiences, and meetings devoted to new research initiatives and future collaborative opportunities. Together, these activities demonstrated that the EMFL user community is active, diverse, and strongly committed to advancing international scientific cooperation.
